TCP/IP

This is a protocol (a set of common rules) that is used when transferring data across a network. Computers uses the same protocol when communicate with each other.

This is a unique number of a computer that is used on a network. An IP Address is four sets of numbers that range from 0 - 255

Ports & Protocols

A port is a virtual door that has a number to identify it, the number of the port relates to a service that that port is used for. Example: 25 � Email, 80 � HTTP (Transfer of webpages). Domain names A webserver has a number to identify it (IP Address). This is difficult for humans to remember, so we use Domain Names instead, example; Google. The Domain Name Server will convert the Domain Name into an IP Address.
